Calling All Baseball Fans!!! Volunteers needed...
Talking Baseball Part 3....From the Southern District of New York
By Eileen Levine

As most of you know, for the past seven years, I’ve been actively involved with working with “Ed Randall's Bat for the Cure”. BFTC was created by Ed to promote prostate cancer awareness and to raise money for the endocrine lab and cancer research at St. Luke’s- Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. Ed, cancer survivor, MLB baseball sports announcer and talk show host on WFAN in New York, has teamed up with all of the official minor league baseball teams and many of the major league teams across the country, to have BFTC prostate cancer awareness days at their ballparks. Each team hosts a special ceremony and at some games, we conduct PSA testing before/after/during a game.

I am looking for volunteers to hand out brochures at "Bat for the Cure Day" in the Minor League ballparks during games. Our official 2010 kick off of Ed’s 4th annual Minor League Initiative is Father's Day, June 20. In 2009, 132 Minor League Baseball clubs hosted “Bat For The Cure Days”. In addition, Ed and his BFTC team conducted complimentary PSA tests at the 2009 Annual Major League Baseball winter meetings in Las Vegas, where they tested over 105 men in two days! We have been given our biggest honor to date, designation of BFTC as an “Official Charitable Partner of Minor League Baseball” taking its place beside the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Special Olympics and the A.L.S. Foundation.

This season, several Major League teams have already asked us to host at least one more PSA testing at their ballparks. The New York Yankees, the Washington Nationals and the San Diego Padres, through Dave Winfeld, have expressed interest in also hosting BFTC day.

Through our FCCA family, I have found volunteers throughout the country to assist the ballparks with these ceremonies and hand out information on prostate cancer. I am again looking for volunteers. If you might be interested in volunteering, email or call me and I will let you know the date of the BFTC Awareness Night Ballgame closest to you.

For more information on this worthy cause, the website is www.erbatforthecure.org.

OH!! and I almost forgot to add, that a wonderful benefit for the volunteers is that they get to attend to the ballgames for FREE!!!!

I would like to sincerely thank all the FCCA members and extended court family members who have stepped up to the plate to volunteer for these life saving and fun events! As of early June, 2010, we have over 40 District and Bankruptcy Court Clerk volunteers, along with their family members and friends.

If you wish to contact me, you may call at 212-805-0492, or through email at eileen_levine@nysd.uscourts.gov. During the week of June 28th, you can also email Dave Cambensy to get a message to me at dave_cambensy@waed.uscourts.gov.

Thanks again!!

Eileen
