THE FCCA FOUNDATION
COULD USE YOUR HELP

The FCCA Foundation was established in 1997 for two principal purposes: (1) to seek corporate sponsors  to fund activities at FCCA's Annual Conference; and (2) to develop awards and scholarships to recognize and reward deserving deputy clerks who consistently provide outstanding service to the Public.

Current FCCA Foundation Board Members, all of whom serve without compensation and three of whom are Past Presidents of FCCA, are:

President, Bob Christ, Former District Court Clerk (Oregon)
Vice-President, Len Brosnan, Former District Court Clerk (LA)
Secretary, Mike Whetstone, Formerly of the West Group
Treasurer, Jim Davey, Former District Court Clerk (DC)
Joyce Witt, Former District Court Clerk (West Virginia)

Thanks primarily to the efforts of Chris Dreps, former Deputy Clerk for the Idaho District Court, the Foundation's fund raising efforts for the FCCA Conference in Miami in August 1999 were extremely successful. Chris, who works for the Foundation as an independent contractor, raised $60,000 from seventeen vendors, many of whom have already indicated their desire to support future conferences.

Where the Foundation could use your help is in the area of scholarships and awards for deserving deputy clerks. The Foundation has already established the FCCA Public Service Award. This monetary award of $1500 recognizes and rewards front line employees who consistently perform exemplary service in dealing with the public. The first recipient of this award is James "Jimmy" Purvis, Deputy Clerk, Middle District of Louisiana, who received a plaque and a check for $1500 at the Miami Conference. In the future, as sufficient funds become available, the Foundation will fund further awards and scholarships.

Anyone with an interest in FCCA and the Federal Courts should seriously consider making a tax deductible contribution to the Foundation. (The Foundation is a tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation organized within the meaning of Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.) All such contributions will be used exclusively to fund awards and scholarships. None will be used to fund Conference activities. Contributions should be sent to:

The FCCA Foundation
c/o Jim Davey, Treasurer

The names of contributors will be published in the FCCA Journal and all contributors will receive an acknowledgement.
